Raslan (left) on the Gallops
It is still raining at Pond House this morning! Another 3 1/2 mm in the last 24 hours bringing the total for July to over 85mm. That is over double what we had for the whole of July in 2011 already! Salisbury is he latest victim of the weather and its meeting for this evening has been abandoned. There are five flat cards across the country today at Newmarket, Newbury, York, Chester and Hamilton (which has passed its inspection). The stable has a runner at Newbury with Raslan who runs in the 2 mile handicap. He has lots of ability and has been a useful handicapper over hurdles for several since joining Pond House several years ago but he has not won on the flat for six years. He is quite well handicapped on old form and although ideally he prefers a bit better ground it will be interestting to see how he gets on.
David's runner yesterday, War Singer at Newbury finished third beaten about six lengths. He seemed to handle the ground no trouble and it was an encouraging first effort on the flat in this country. He is like to have another run on the level somewhere in the near future and he won't mind the ground drying out a bit, if it ever does!
I always read Richard Hughes' article in the Racing post on a Saturday. He is a real golf nut and is getting worried there will not be a tv in the weighing room to watch the Open. He was also advising Rory Mcilroy to listen to his caddie's advice a bit more. He says Lee Westwood listens to his caddie Billy Foster a lot more and a good caddie is really helpful and can calm down the fellow holding the clubs. jope you are listening Rory ahead of the Open next weekend!
British riders have won four stages of the Tour De France. Bradley Wiggins is still leading but can you name the other three stage winners? They would all be superstars in France as this is there biggest sporting event but it does not get a lot of publicity in this country. One of our owners Gino bought a bike that cost about £4000 and cycled across France. He did not get a start in the Tour De France, the motor on the side of the bike was probably the reason! Have a nice day.
