Our sole runner at Windsor, On Khee ran a much better race on the level last night, finishing third at Windsor under Simon Pearce. On this evidence there should be a little race in her in that sphere, while you would think that she could also break her duck over hurdles. Today there are four flat cards at Beverley, Ffos Las, Yarmouth and Southwell - there are three races at Southwell that are worth less than £2,000 in prizemoney, mind you they have attracted big fields of runners so these owners are not worried about how much their horses are competing for! If they keep running, the tracks will continue to take the mickey!
There is a great article on Michael Scudamore Snr in today's Racing Post - he is 80 years old today. In 1998 he rode in a charity race at Wincanton - son Peter and grandson Tom also rode in the race. Michael said, "I turned for home, saw a gap and went for it. From somewhere behind me I heard Tom shout go on grandad! What a great thrill it was to ride in that race." Michael Snr famously won the Grand National aboard Oxo in 1959 - many happy returns of the day.

I have heard that Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are describing the Open as a jungle...you would think that Tiger would be right at home in a jungle! If they are worried about the rough being too long, surely it would be a good idea to keep your ball on the fairway, that way the rough doesn't come into play. It sounds to me as though they are making excuses already. You need someone who hits the ball straight and while Luke Donald is not long, he is usually straight...or at least that is what his wife must think!

Someone told me that Andy Carroll is going back to Newcastle although I'm not so sure, another of my mates said that there was more chance of finding a security guard in the east end of London! What is going on with the Olympic security? A whole host of people haven't reported for work - I'm sure their uniforms won't come in useful for anything underhand!

I was amused to see that jockey Danny Brock turned up half an hour early to ride his mount at Mazovian in the 4.15pm at Southwell yesterday afternoon. The jockey turned up in the parade ring, kitted out in his colours but couldn't find connections as he was a race early. I don't think I have ever known anybody as keen - he must have known that it was some sort of good thing as he duly won the race at 10/1!
