We are off to Newton Abbot this afternooon with a couple of runners and there should be a good turnout, especially if this decent weather holds.  Newton Abbot always attracts plenty of holiday makers and there is always a really enjoyable atmosphere and that makes it one of my favourite tracks, that and the fact that it is only just down the road from my home in Brixham!  Presenting Ace participates in the maiden hurdle where he will be partnered by young Frank Hayes, who has spent the last couple of months working in France.  Vertige Dore (pictured above) is our other runner on the card.

Unfortunately for my long suffering wife, I will be glued to the television this afternoon watching the final round of The Open Golf Championship.  I hope that the wind starts blowing hard - that will sort out the really good players who can play in the conditions (and make them work for their money!).  I have been listening to some of the tournament on the radio, althought the commentator does get on my nerves...he never gives out the scores and seems to love the sound of his own voice!

I see that both Manchester United and Manchester City are both trying to buy Arsenal's captain Robin Van Persie.  City have bid £15 million and United £13 million, but surely Arsenal will not sell until they are offered at least £20 million - he scored 44 goals in 57 games last season and looks to be worth more to me.  I have to be honest, the transfer market does puzzle me sometimes - many clubs have paid far more money for far inferior players than the Dutchman - I wonder why he isn't attracting the offers his skill deserves?

Warren Martin netted (excuse the pun) a cheque for £31,000 for winning the Fishomania Final...I never won that sort of money when I used to fish at Dobbs Weir!  In fact, I was told to sling my hook!  Have a good weekend...
