It is a blank day for the stable on the runners front and the calendar is back to all flat cards with six meetings taking place at Newbury, Newcastle, Nottingham, Newmarket, Kempton and Catterick. Newbury plays host to a good Listed race and if Mick Channon's Sandreamer appreciates the drop back to five furlongs this filly certainly has the form to win the Bathwick Tyres sponsored race...the St Hugh's Stakes is the best race taking place in this country today.

Yesterday's runners at Fontwell were a bit disappointing and may have wanted the ground a bit softer (obviously Fontwell have managed to avoid most of the downpours we have seen over the last few days) - our new French import Starlife probably found the good (good/firm in places) going on the quick side for her. She was very impressive when winning on heavy ground in France last time and was penalised 10lbs for that success (believe it or not a French claimer is considered a class 1 to 3 race over here for penalty purposes - I guess that just shows how inadequate our prize money levels are). Let's wait until the ground eases before we judge her too much.
With the weather as unpredictable as ever it is almost impossible to work out what the ground is going to be, just look at Salisbury on Wednesday - their ground which was good/firm in the morning was soft after the first race! Indeed, we had another 10mm of rain at the yard over the past 24 hours and you can guess what the forecast is for the next 24 hours...non-stop rain!

It seems like only yesterday that Manchester City were crowned champions of our Premier League...it starts all over again tomorrow! It will be interesting to see if Van Persie and Rooney gel in the Manchester United attack - they are away to Everton on Monday night at 8pm on Sky. I did get the hump and cancel my Sky football deal. It took me a week (even without Premiership action) to realise what I had done - a phone call to Sky only took them 2 minutes to put it back on. My poor wife thought that things were on the up there for a few days!

Can somebody tell me what the government and local council are going to do after they have finished selling off all the school playing fields? They are going to run out of things to flog, a bit like racing after the government had sold off the Tote. In the short-term you get a golden handshake, but in the long-term you have no assets left...surely this is not rocket science!
