It was a good day for the stable yesterday with the success of Premier Dane in the handicap chase at Stratford - that is now two wins from two starts since joining the team at Pond House (one over hurdles and one over fences)...not bad for a ten year old!  I thought that our other runner, Molly Oscar also shaped encouragingly when finishing third in the opening hurdle and gave encouragement that she would be up to winning a similar event, although this former point-to-point winner probably won't be seen to best effect until tackling fences.

Although the stable has no runners this afternoon Tom Scudamore makes the long journey up to Perth to ride for Lucinda Russell and Ferdy Murphy.  Tom has spent so much time up north in recent months that I am sure he is going to return one day with a Scottish accent!  Meanwhile Irish trainer Gordon Elliott has plenty of runners at the track and could be the handler to follow.  There are four other meetings taking place today, on the level at Brighton, Warwick and Yarmouth and over jumps at Worcester.

What a start for Everton!  The Toffees managed to eek out a 1-0 victory over Manchester United last night - I hope that a few of you took my advice and took a bit of the 7/2 available about the Merseysiders.  United just could not get to grips with Marouane Fellaiini - the Everton striker made the Man Utd defense look very ordinary.  Fergie later said that his team seemed to lack a cutting edge, although personally I think that he needs to take a long, hard look at his centre backs.

England lost the final Test cricket match against the South Africans yesterday afternoon and lost the series 2-0 as well as their spot at number one in the world rankings.  Sadly our batting order looks to brittle to be considered the best in the world at present.

I was pleased to see Sergio Garcia win the golf tournament in America - he looks set for a place in the Ryder Cup and that looks like a good shout to me.  I would always have the Spaniard in my team as he inspires the other players with his personality (and tremendous play).
