There is some great quality jumping action from Market Rasen this afternoon and we have runners in both of their highlight races.  David's Punchestown winner Street Entertainer carries top weight in the Listed Summer Hurdle, and while that is clearly a big ask of a four year old he is improving at a rate of knots and is reunited with winning rider A P McCoy.  Qulinton goes in the Summer Plate and his form received a boost when Sir Ian, who he beat by a short head at Worcester (the pair 28 lengths clear) subsequently came out and won easily.

A P McCoy continues riding in splendid form as he demonstrated yesterday with a treble at Cartmel yesterday and barring injury he is already well on course for an incredible sixteenth successive jockeys championship.  He really is a fantastic ambassador for our sport and always takes time out to pose for photographs and sign autographs for racing enthusiasts - I guess it makes signing easy when you are just known as "AP"!

I thought that a number of our runners ran with credit yesterday.  Frosted Grape ran her heart out to finish runner-up in the handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter and was only denied by the genius of A P McCoy aboard the winner Calypso Bay.  Calypso Bay had dropped 20lbs in the weights of late and our mare was conceding 5lbs to the winner - she looked as though she would hold on for most of the way and only gave best close home.  The pair of them were thirty lengths clear of the third, so she clearly perfomed very well and there should be other days for her so long as the handicapper does not crucify her.

The Racing Post have gone big on the Open at Sandwich this year - they have a 23 page pull-out!  There seems to be evey golf fact and figure ever recorded to help you find the winner.  No doubt all eyes will be on Rory McIlroy - he is a best priced 5/2 to finish the week as the top Great Britain and Ireland player.  He does hit the ball a long way and is clearly at the top of his game, but he would be a far from original choice.  I think that I will be backing Luke Donald to be the top British player at odds of around 7/2 - he won the Scottish Open last week by four shots - he hits the ball very straight and he has a great short game.  I will also be having a little bit of 11/1 about him winning the championship, 2/1 about a top 6 finish and 10/11 about a top 10 finish - it sounds like I could do a few quid!

It seems to me that everyone is in danger of getting their phones tapped...with the possible exception of tipster Derek Thompson!  If one newspaper is tapping people's phones, the chances are that there will be others at it.  It's a wonder that the bookmakers haven't already chalked up odds about it - it could be called a telephone book!

Our only runner, Bathwick Man ran well at Stratford yesterday afternoon to finish runner-up in the conditional jockey's handicap hurdle under Conor O'Farrell.  He was only beaten by four lengths by Kings Realm and he looks as though he should be able to capitalise on this kind of handicap mark in the near future.

Today there are no fewer than three race meetings, and of course all of them are jump fixtures at Perth, Southwell and Stratford.  There are no flat meetings on at all, so it has all become apparent...it is flat on Saturday's and jumps on Sunday's - why am I so thick?  I should have realised sooner that race planning would have everything under control - afterall, the flat boys must go to church on a Sunday, while the jumps ruffians do not!
