Kings Palace Winning at Cheltenham

It was great to see Kings Palace put in another fine performance to win at Cheltenham yesterday.  I thought he jumped as well as I've ever seen a horse jump a round of fences at the track yesterday, especially for a novice.  On eight pounds worse terms with Sausalito Sunrise from their previous meeting I thought he beat him even more comprehensively and I think he is very decent.  I see he is now favourite for the RSA chase at the Festival and I think it will take a good one to beat him.  Standing Ovation still looked to be going okay when he knuckled and fell at the third last and it was a shame as he had also jumped superbly.  I am pleased to report that he and all our runners from yesterday are fine this morning which is most important.

It looks like an exciting day's action with four meetings taking place headlined by the first day of Cheltenham's International meeting and supported by jumps cards from Bangor and Doncaster as well as an all-weather flat card from Wolverhampton.  The flat card fails to break the £30,000 barrier with just £29,000 on offer across their seven race card.  The stable has three runners at Cheltenham; Kings Palace, Street Entertainer and Standing Ovation.  I am particularly looking forward to seeing exciting novice chaser Kings Palace who was the impressive winner of his chase debut at the track last time out when putting in a faultless round of jumping to beat Sausalito Sunrise.  He has to improve further to confirm form with that rival on these revised terms but he does look like a top class prospect.  I was going to fly up to the track with David today but there has been plenty of overnight wind and rain and I am not the bravest so have decided to give it a miss.

***UPDATE***

Bladoun a non-runner, 1.10pm Taunton

There are four meetings this afternoon with three National Hunt fixtures from Taunton, Warwick and Newcastle as well as an all-weather flat card from Kempton.  The stable runs Rathealy at Warwick, while at Taunton we are represented by Rathlin Rose, Bladoun and Minister Of Mayhem at Taunton.  Bladoun was a ready winner last time out at Leicester on soft ground and is well-treated under his 7lbs penalty - Tom Scudamore rides them all at Taunton with the exception of Minister Of Mayhem who is ridden by conditional of the moment, Michael Heard who claims a useful 7lbs off his back.  Meanwhile Conor O'Farrell is aboard Rathealy at Warwick - his form was given a timely boost when the horse who beat him on his debut ran a good race to finish second to Bidourey under a penalty earlier in the week.

The stable had another nice winner at Fontwell yesterday afternoon when Bidourey (pictured above) was a battling winner of the juvenile hurdle under Tom Scudamore.  I thought this was a good first effort over timber from our three year old who was extending his unbeaten run to three.  He has plenty of size about him and he clearly possesses a very good attitude, so is very much one to be excited about for the future.  There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with two jumps fixtures from Leicester and Hexham as well as all-weather cards from Lingfield and Kempton.  Well done to the team at Kempton where there is a race worth £37,750 - great prize money for a Wednesday evening!

Today there are three meetings to look forward to with National Hunt cards from Fontwell and Uttoxeter as well as an all-weather flat card from Southwell.  The stable has runners at both of the jumps meetings this afternoon with the very promising unbeaten pair Bidourey (pictured above) and Molo travelling to Fontwell to be ridden by Tom Scudamore, while Conor O'Farrell is aboard Lady Of Longstone and newcomer Flabello at Uttoxeter.  With sixty-four winners on the board I am sure David would like to keep the momentum going with a few more today!

It was another great day for the yard on Saturday after Poole Master had won the valuable Grand Sefton handicap chase over 2m5f and the Grand National fences at Aintree under Tom Scudamore.  Tom was understandably elated to notch his first win over these unique fences - his grandfather had won the National aboard Oxo, although his father Peter never won a race around the National course.  With £43,300 to the winner I am sure the owner was elated too!  I thought that Michael Heard gave Bygones Sovereign a fantastic ride to win the hanidcap hurdle in the dying strides at Chepstow - he was at our eight year old from a very early stage and if it had been A P McCoy in the saddle it would be talked about as the ride of the week...and remember Michael still claims 7lbs!  Very well done to him.

Following on from our frantic Saturday at four meetings, things return to a more sedate pace today with just two meetings taking place at Huntingdon and Kelso, although we do still have runners at both meetings.  Saint John Henry and Susie Sheep run at Huntingdon and will be partnered by Conor O'Farrell, while Tom Scudamore makes the long journey north to partner Virtuel d'Oudon and Shotavodka.  I wonder if Tom has ever sold a low mileage car in his life?!  I will be joining David by flying up to Huntingdon this afternoon - it has been a long time since I have been there, in fact Sabin du Loir beat Desert Orchid in the Peterborough Chase the last time I was there...happy memories indeed!
