On the Gallops
Today we have four meetings, three on the flat at Salisbury, Haydock and Wolverhampton plus a jumps card at Sedgefield. There is also racing in Ireland at Laytown where they race on the beach when the tide has gone out. It must be the only race track of its kind in the World. They tell me the pubs do a good trade! It is definitely wirth a watch, racing starts at 2.35pm. David's one runner Franklin Roosevelt was again disappointing at Southwell yesterday back over hurdles. He seems fine this morning and he is a six time winner so hopefully we can find the key to unlocking his 7th success next time.

Franklin Roosevelt
David has one runner today at Southwell, Franklin Roosevelt in the 4.45pm 3 mile handicap hurdle. He has won six times and seems to go on any ground. He didn't run that well iin a chase last time at Worcester but he was a winner over hurdles at Newton Abbot the time before that. Tom Scu is back on board again today and hopefully he will run okay. Today there are also three other meetings, all on the flat at Lingfield, Bath and Kempton.

Today we have four meetings, all on the flat at Goodwood, Hamilton, Carlisle and Kempton. At least one of the cards has prize money under £30,000. I see that Towcester have sold seven of there fixtures so they can stage more greyhound racing. The Arena Racing company have paid more than a million pounds. We will probably end up with a lot more low grade all-weather cards. How do Arena Racing make it pay? I thought dog racing was in the decline so how are Towcester going to make it pay? It looks like we are all going to the dogs!

Today we have three meetings, two on the flat at Brighton and Leicester and a jumps card at Huntingdon. There are eight races at brighton for just £29,000 which I think is an absolute joke. How can our sport attract new owners with that sort of return for your investment? David's runners performed well at Newton Abbot on Saturday without winning. Sinndar's Man finished second on his racecourse debut and he looks sure to win, maybe even over a longer trip. Azza finished fourth and did not quite appear to get the longer trip but ran well and it was great she showed no ill-effects from her fall over fences last time out. Massannie looked a little unlucky in running but ran well and Hawkhill was also not far behind and ran okay. What a buy Houston Dynimo was. David claimed the nine year old for £6,000 back in May and he won first time out over hurdles at Southwell and he ran another great race to finish second, beaten a head in the feature chase on Saturday. He won over £8,516 in prize money so has already paid for himself! David should get out his magic ball again and claim some more like the Dynimo!

Today just for a change we have a bit of balance to a Sunday fixture list - there is a flat card from Brighton and a jumps meeting from Worcester. Navanman, who was due to make his debut for the stable is now a non-runner in the bumper at Worcester. The bumpers always used to be the last race on the cards - I don't know why they changed it, the only reason I can think of is to get more racegoers to watch them rather than shoot off before the last race. As usual A P McCoy looks to have a strong book of rides, in fact he has six rides for six different trainers - it is always good to be in demand!

It looks like an exciting day of racing ahead with six meetings taking place - four of them are on the level at Sandown, Chester, Beverley and Bath, while there are jump fixtures from Newton Abbot and Market Rasen. Bath are at the bottom of the league again with just £30,000 up for grabs but what about Newton Abbot who have managed to secure prize money of £120,000 for their big meeting today - what a great effort from the Devon track, time and again they put some of the larger tracks to shame and are a great example of how a track should be run. The stable has five runners at Newton Abbot this afternoon; Sinndar's Man, Azza (pictured above), Hawkhill, Massannie, Shotavodka and Houston Dynimo.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with four on the level from Thirsk, Sandown, Salisbury and Wolverhampton as well as a jumps fixture from Bangor. Bangor receive today's wooden spoon with just £29,000 prize money up for grabs. Just think, if you finish fourth in their handicap hurdle you win a cool £166 - I'm not sure what that is going to pay for...possibly a round of drinks?! Having said that, they should at least be applauded for taking the initiative with schooling races - the track is planning to have it's first fixture next month and will give horses and jockeys the opportunity to jump hurdles, fences or even compete in racecourse gallops for experience. The concept is already a successful part of the regime in Ireland and I am sure that Bangor will be well supported.
