Rian Riding at Southwell Today

The jump race action comes from Southwell this afternoon and while the stable does not have any runners, our conditional Rian Corcoran rides in the final race on the card, the conditional jockeys handicap hurdle.  He rides Zoffalee for trainer Mike Sowersby, he is the outsider of the field but it will be great to get another ride under his belt.  It will be a long and busy day for him as he was in early riding out, will probably ride four lots before he leaves to go racing and it will be a late night home as Southwell takes about four hours travelling from our yard.  This is what jockey's have to do daily though and it is good he is sharing a lift with another young jockey riding in the race.

There is a jumps card today at Warwick plus three flat fixtures at Musselburgh, Catterick and Kempton.  In Ireland there is a meeting under each code, a flat card at Bellewston and jumping action at Sligo.  The stable does not have any runners.  There are in fact very few runners in all of the races at Warwick which is a bit sad to see but not surprising with the going described as good, good to firm in places.  While this going is not too bad, I imagine those that had runners at the track last week know it is perhaps quicker going than officially described and a lot of trainers are erring on the side of caution.

Best Night ran a good race to be third at Newton Abbot yesterday under Jack Tudor.  She travelled and jumped well once again and held every chance as the field turned for home but the front two just quickened away from her on this occasion.  The ground was probably quick enough for her with no recent rain but Jack was happy with her run and he says she will be winning plenty more races.  She has eaten up overnight and is fine this morning which is the main thing and we can run her again once we have some rain.

Best Night Runs at Newton Abbot Today

We start the new week with one runner at Newton Abbot, Best Night.  She runs in the 3.06pm novices hurdle over 2m1f and Jack Tudor rides.  She was a recent course and distance winner on stable and hurdling debut just ten day ago and she has come out of that run well and so we have decided to let her take her chance again.  She is so straight forward with everything she does and eats well, she really is a pleasure to have in the yard.  Jack Pipe gave her a little canter on Saturday morning and says she is in good form so let's hope he is right!  It was a mares event that she won last time and she takes on the boys this afternoon with a penalty so things will be tougher but she has a great attitude and I would hope she will go very close and be in the placings at least once again.

There is jumps racing at Worcester this afternoon and we have two runs, Kintaro and Old Bridge.  Kintaro runs in the David Pipe Racing Club colours, in the 2.07pm novices handicap chase and Jack Tudor rides.  He is making his chasing debut and is seeking his first ever win.  He has ability but is quite a character and has to be in the right mood on the day!
