There are three jumps meetings today at Taunton, Newcastle and Warwick and we have three runners close to home at Taunton.  Navarau, Morradi and American Sniper make up our trio of runners and they will all be partnered by Jack Tudor.  Navarau runs in the opening contest of the day, a junior novices hurdle for three year olds who have not run on the flat.  Navarau is making his career debut and he is the only one in the field without any racecourse experience but he has been to Worcester and taken part in a schooling trial so it is not like he hasn't had any away days.  He took everything in his stride that day but this will be different and will be like his first day at school.  He has handled everything we have thrown at him at home well and he shows ability and a likeable attitude.  There has been a decent level of form shown by some of his rivals already so it may be tough but I would like to think he has a good chance and whatever he does today there should be plenty more to come going forwards.

       Itseemslikeit Uttoxeter Winner

It was a brilliant and rewarding win for Itseemslikeit at Uttoxeter yesterday.  The day didn't start as we hoped with Phantomofthepoints falling in his race but thankfully he is okay and the day ended on a good note!  Phantomofthepoints had jumped very well, if a little left and while we were probably booked to finish second to the short priced favourite he did not really deserve to fall at the third last, the open ditch.  He seemed to jump the fence well but slithered on landing and came down which was a bit unlucky.  As I say, the main thing is he and Jack are both fine and will be back another day.

Phantomofthepoints Runs at Uttoxeter Today

The rain continues to fall here at Pond House and we have now had quite a bit more rain in the first nine days of this month than we did for the whole of December 2024!  We head to Uttoxeter today with three runners and the track currently has some standing water though they don't say they have any problems of racing going ahead or anything.  We have had 16mm of rain in the the last 24 hours, Uttoxeter have had just less then 8mm.  Uttoxeter was due to be one of two jumps meetings today but Ayr was abandoned yesterday because of waterlogging and so there is just one all-weather meeting at Newcastle and in Ireland they are jumping at Punchestown.

The new week starts with two jumps meetings at Fontwell and Musselburgh and we have one runner at the first mentioned, Turenne.  Turenne runs in the opening contest of the day at Fontwell, the 12.55pm juvenile hurdle and Jack Tudor rides.  The meeting had to pass a morning inspection with the ground described as heavy and rain due overnight, but thankfully they didn't get any rain and racing goes ahead.  Turenne has some good form in the book in France and has had just the one run for us up at Catterick where he finished a close second to a useful rival giving away a penalty.  I think today's track and ground will suit him much better than Catterick's speed test and on ratings he should be hard to beat today.  The betting has it has a two horse race between us and the Gary and Josh Moore horse with the other five being quite big in the betting.  The Moore horses are in great form at the moment so you have to be wary but I will be disappointed if we do not win this race.

Ben Lilly Makes is Pointing Debut Today

There are just two jumps meetings today, at Kelso and Huntingdon but the stable does not have any runners.  There are not lots of runners up at Kelso but some of their race feature on ITV4 Racing this afternoon and the Border National over 4m1f has a field of eleven going to post.  There is £50,000 added in prize money up for grabs and my pick would be Diamond Dealer for the Skelton team who was a winner at the track already this season and is about 7/1 in the betting.

    Gentleman Toboot Winner at Exeter

It was a lovely performance from Gentleman Toboot to win at Exeter yesterday, making it two from two over hurdles this season.  Conceding a penalty is never easy, especially to some potentially useful rivals but we know he is smart and it was great for him to put in the performance we know he is capable of.  Dropping back in trip was not an issue as anticipated on this track and they had some rain before his race, the worst came through the rest of the afternoon and conditions looked horrible from watching on the TV!

Gentleman Toboot runs at Exeter Today

Today we have two runners at Exeter, Gentleman Toboot and Best Night and Jack Tudor rides both.  Gentleman Toboot runs in the novices hurdle at 12.48pm and he is favourite and I hope he will take all the beating.  He is a horse we hold in high regard and he won his hurdling debut at Newton Abbot, his only start of the season so far.  That was over 2m5f and today's race is only two miles but Exeter is a completely different course and so I don't see the drop back in trip being a problem.  The runner up from Newton Abbot, A Pai Du Nom has boosted the form twice since by winning at Cheltenham and then winning at Leicester yesterday over two miles himself.  Our five year old was a bit novicey with his jumping the last day but he has schooled well since and again with the different track I think today will suit him better.  It is a competitive 16 runner field but I hope he should win.  Rain is forecast for today and the more rain they get before his race the better!
