Pachacuti is one of our two runners today!

May I start by wishing you all a very happy New Year!! I hope you had a good New Years Eve however you welcomed in the New Year. We have an action packed start to 2024 on the racing front with four jump meetings around the country. There were due to be five but Southwell, like Sunday’s meetings at Warwick and Uttoxeter were all abandoned due to waterlogging. There is jump racing today at Cheltenham, Exeter, Catterick and Musselburgh. There is an all-weather flat card at Newcastle and in Ireland they race at Fairyhouse and Tramore over jumps.

Today we have one runner at Uttoxeter (providing the meeting goes ahead!), Sizing Pottsie. He runs in the 2.10pm handicap hurdle over 2m3f.  He made a pleasing seasonal reappearance at the track to be a close second but then was a little disappointing at Wincanton last time.  He will love the testing conditions today and he steps up in trip a little and Gearoid Harney rides taking off seven pounds again.  There are only six runners but it looks a competitive looking race although I think we have a good chance.  Bear Ghylls has some good form in the book but has been a little out of sorts of late but has had wind surgery so if this has had a positive effect then he looks the one the beat. We are about 9/2 in the betting and hopefully he won’t be too far away.

Neon Moon one of our 5 runners today!

We are back with a bang with runners today and have six at two different meetings, five at Taunton and one at Newbury.  Neon Moon is Newbury runner while at Taunton we run Rebel Angel, Nila, Moodofthemoment, Dindin and Bonheur De Ballon.  Neon Moon runs in the concluding race on the Newbury card, the 2m6f novices limited handicap chase and Jack Tudor rides.  He returned to action this season with an impressive win at Ludlow but has been a little below that level in two runs since and we have freshened him up with a mini break and outings with the hounds since then.  He is only four pounds higher than his Ludlow win today which should be within his reach, he likes the ground and the track and this looks to be his ideal trip.  He is one of the outsiders in the betting at about 12/1 but I expect him to put up a bold show.

There are two jumps meetings at Doncaster and Kelso today but the stable does not have any runners.  There is all-weather flat action from Southwell but the best racing once again is over in Ireland at Leopardstown and Limerick who are on day four of their Christmas Festivals.  There is however a mares listed chase at Doncaster which has attracted a strong field and the market is headed jointly by Limerick Lace from Ireland and Zambella from the home team.  I don’t have a strong fancy for the race but it should be an interesting watch.

There are no runners for Pond House today and there is just the one jumps meeting left today at Catterick after Leicester was forced to abandon yet again.  There is one meeting on the all-weather at Newcastle and in Ireland they have day three of their Christmas Festivals at both Leopardstown and Limerick.

Only The Bold one of our runners today!
I hope everyone had a good Boxing Day, ate too much and enjoyed watching the racing. Today we move onto Welsh National Day and we have two runners in the feature race at 2.50pm, Only The Bold and Iceo Madrik.  Jack Tudor is on board Only the Bold in the colours of the Value Racing Club while David Noonan rides Iceo Madrik for Professor Caroline Tisdall.  Both are relatively big prices at 25/1 and 66/1 respectively but if you are in it you have a chance.  Our horses are correctly in the handicap while several of the runners are running from out of the weights.  The weather is wet and both our horses won’t mind any rain that falls.

    Kingofthewest runs today at Wincanton!

Well, I hope everyone enjoyed a fabulous Christmas day whatever you may have been up to, but for many sporting fans, Boxing day is the best day of the Christmas period with plenty of action for us all to watch. Today we have seven runners across four different meetings. The lorries are travelling far and wide and hopefully we may grab a winner.

The earliest lorry to set off was the one to market Rasen where via Dante is our only representative. He runs in the 1.15pm novices handicap Chase over 2m7f and David Noonan rides. his form figures do not read that good to the naked eye, but he would have won on his last start at Newton Abbot if he had not come to grief at the second last fence when clear of his rivals. He has fallen on both of his chase starts, but he is in fact a very good jumper, believe it or not! He picked up an injury during that fall at Newton Abbot and this is his first run back from a break. He is in good form at home and I would like to think he has a good chance at about 3/1 in the betting. There has been money for the Lucinda Russell trained horse in the race, but like us that one’s form figures don’t give much away. With a clear round, I hope via Dante will not be far away in the colours of the David pipe racing club.
