Hammer Dan runs at Uttoxeter this Evening
Racing springs back into life today following the blank day yesterday with plenty of action. There is a twilight jumps card over at Uttoxeter that gets underway at 4.30pm and we have a runner in the final race of the day, Hammer Dan in the 7.05pm handicap hurdle over 2m7f and Jack Tudor rides. Our seven year old had three runs earlier this summer with form figures of 223. He returns today from having wind surgery and we hope that will have worked and have helped him to try and get his third career win over hurdles. He also sports first time cheek pieces in and attempt to get him just to concentrate a little more and I would like to think he has a good chance at about 13/2, fourth best in the betting. He won't mind the track or the ground.

It is of course a 'first' in modern day British racing today, with no racing taking place to show unity against proposed government plans to increase the betting tax in the autumn budget, as part of a campaign aimed to axe the racing tax. This is to help show how seriously every sector of the racing industry is worried about the sport's financial future. Racing fears the 15%tax currently applied to sports betting will be raised to the 21% applied to casino if not higher. A host of people who are associated with our sport and work in racing will be at Westminster today to press the case for the government to re-think the policy which will cost an estimated £330 million in lost revenue to the industry over the next five years and therefore putting thousands of jobs at risk.

Golf Trophies
Today we have one runner at Newton Abbot, Mancero runs in the opening juvenile hurdle on the card at 1.58pm and Jack Tudor rides. This will be just his second start for the stable, he won on his career debut in France after which he joined our team. He was disappointing at Hexham in the first juvenile hurdle of the season in June but we we found him not to be right after the race and so you can put a line through that form. He has had a little break since then and is in good form at home. This looks a fairly competitive race but I think we are a cracking each way price at 14/1. Newton Abbot are due further rain before racing and we won't mind any they get, the more the better!

The weather came good and we had a lovely day hosting our racing club members at Pond House on Saturday morning. We are still wanting rain but it was nice it stayed dry and sunny for us to welcome everyone. Following a look round at the horses in their stables they were entertained by Best Night doing some jumping practice, horses loose schooling, swimming and galloping. We then paraded a few horses and held a raffle in aid of the air ambulance and served cream teas. We had lots of messages thanking us since and it is always nice to have good feedback.

It is a quieter day on the racing front with just two meetings, one under each code. There is flat action at York and jumping from Fontwell this afternoon. There is no racing in Ireland and the stable does not have any runners.

Today we are welcoming members of the David Pipe Racing Club to Pond House for their annual stable visit. About 120 people are coming to the yard this morning to see our equine stars, in the stables and on the gallops. They will see a horse swim and in the loose school, followed by some horses parading and refreshments.

We have our first jumps runner for a couple of weeks and Old Bridge runs in the opening race at Bangor this afternoon, the 1.55pm novices hurdle and Jack Tudor rides. Our four year old has run well on his last two starts when we have stepped him up in trip to 2m4f. He finished second at Uttoxeter to a well handicapped rival and then was not beaten very far at all, staying on all the way to the line in a novice event at Worcester to be second again. There are only six runners in the race and the betting suggests three horses have a chance and three horses may not! We are third favourite at 4/1 and we might have a bit to find with the principles but if he runs the same as last time I think he has a very good chance. He should be placed and hope hopefully he could win! He has run well at the track before and likes the ground so fingers crossed!
