Behind The Curtain after his win!
It was nearly a double for the David Pipe Racing Club yesterday but not quite! Well done to jockey Martin McIntyre who rode his first winner for David yesterday when steering Behind the Curtain to victory in the amateur handicap hurdle at Wincanton. We did think he was too big a price in the betting, but it was a lovely surprise to see him win at 50/1! This was his first start over hurdles for the yard after two runs over hurdles where he fell at the first and pulled up at the last. He is a very lightly raced ten year old who had had over 1000 days off the track before running for us this season. He had won a bumper in Ireland but that was five years ago so it has been a long time between drinks!

Jurancon runs today at Hereford!
Today we have five runners across the two jumps meetings at Hereford and Wincanton. Only Fools and Jurancon head to Hereford, while our three representatives at Wincanton are Behind the Curtain, Dances on the Sand and Johannes. Only Fools runs in the mares handicap hurdle at 3.40pm and Jack Tudor rides. She won impressively at Fontwell just nine days ago and is 5/2 favourite for today’s race, we race with a seven pound penalty and the handicapper is putting her up seven pounds so we are not ‘well in’ today, but she came out her last run so well and this looked a suitable opportunity so we thought we would let her take her chance. It seems that when mares are happy and in good form you need to ‘keep kicking’ so to speak, so hopefully she has a good chance.

King Turgeon runs today!
Today we have three runners at Taunton Skin Full, Manuelito and King Turgeon. Skin Full and Manuelito both run in the 2.50pm novices hurdle over two miles. Jack Tudor rides Manuelito while Tom Bellamy is on board Skin Full who is making his Pond House and rules debut. This five year old has finished third in an Irish point to point and will make a lovely chaser in time. Today’s trip may be on the short side, but it will be interesting to see how he gets on. He is about 20/1 in the betting.

Today we have one runner at Exeter, Royal Defender who runs in the 3.20pm novices handicap hurdle over 2m5f and Jack Tudor rides. He has had just the three runs over hurdles to date and makes his handicap debut today. His best form so far was a third at Lingfield and after that he was a big price in a hot novice event at Cheltenham. He has not been the easiest to train at home but returns to action in a suitable looking race today and will enjoy the step up and trip and ground conditions . He’s an Irish point point winner and is about 9/2 in the betting. Hopefully he can show us a bit more on the racecourse today like he does at home.

Remastered runs today!
Today we head off to Ascot with one runner one of the old boys Remastered in the 4:30pm Veterans Chase over 3miles and Jack Tudor rides. He seems in great form at home but his form on the track has been disappointing. He has been contesting some high class races however and the handicapper has given him a bit of help. He wears cheek pieces for the first time today and we hope these combined with some better ground will help. He is about 10/1 in the betting and I would love to see him return to form.

Neon Moon after winning yesterday!
Neon Moon returned to form with a bang to win at Newbury yesterday under Jack Tudor. After winning on seasonal reappearance at Ludlow he had been a little disappointing on his last few runs, but largely due to the heavy ground he has been running on and he does enjoy better ground which he got for the first time in ages yesterday. That, combined with the fact he was back down to his last winning mark,124 played its part. Jack gave him a patient ride and he was always doing enough when going to the front just after the third last fence. The handicapper will once again have his say but I am sure he can follow this up on some decent ground again as on his day he is a pretty good horse.

Kepagge runs today!
Both our runners at Chepstow yesterday ran very good races but unfortunately both finished second! Shot Boii made virtually all of the running on his first try at the marathon trip of 3m6f but saw it out well but could not quite hold off the challenge of the favourite. He really looked to be enjoying himself at the head of affairs and jumped well bar a mistake at the last, which ended any chance of winning but I don’t think it mattered that much in the end. It was probably a good a run as he has had over fences and he is definitely worth another go at a stamina test.
