The good racing action continues thick and fast this week and we have more top class races to look forward to today at Goodwood and Galway. Ryan Moore won both the opening Group contests on yesterdays Goodwood card and it was a dead heat for the first of those as he shared the spoils with Rossa Ryan. There was an upset in the feature race of the day as Field of Gold did not run his race and the Group 1 was won by Juddmontes second string, Qirat at 150/1 who beat Rosallion by a neck. There seemed a bit of an eerie silence at the track with this result but that is what can happen in horse racing sometimes and it is not like Qirat is without ability, he was just not expected to be good enough for this race! Well done to jockey Richard Kingscote who is now off to ride in Japan for a while.

We move onto day two of Glorious Goodwood and day three of the Galway Festival today with some great racing to look forward to both sides of the Irish sea. Ryan Moore is on board the two favourites for the Group 3 races this afternoon at Goodwood, the first, Tabiti in the Oak Tree Stakes over 7F at 1.55pm for Ralph Beckett. The second, is Lady Iman in the 2.30pm Molecomb Stakes for Ger Lyons over 5F. The first looks an open race but I think he should win on Lady Iman. The feature race of the day is the Qatar Sussex Stakes at 3.30pm and William Buick partners the very exciting Field of Gold for the Gosden team in replace of Colin Keane who is banned. I think this colt is one of the most exciting flat horses I have seen this summer and he will take all the beating in this.

Today we have the first day of the Goodwood Festival to compliment day two of Galway. Racing gets underway at 1.20pm at Goodwood with Group 2 action in the second race. 'Dorset' for the Ballydoyle team is favourite for the coral Vintage Stakes over 7F and Ryan Moore rides. It looks a high class field but I would be with this Wootton Bassett colt. The Lennox Stakes, another group 2 contest follows this and this looks quite an open race while the Goodwood cup, Group 1 goes off at 3.05pm. Eight runners go to post and the betting is once again headed by the Aidan O'Brien team. Illinois finished second in the Ascot Gold Cup with some of these rivals in behind and I think they have it all to do to reverse that form.

What an incredible win for the England women's football team last night against Spain to be crowned European Champions. They did things the hard way again by going 1-0 down in the first half but equalised through a great header from Russo after half time. Extra time followed in which Spain probably looked the most likely team to grab a winner but then penalties followed and our lionesses showed nerves of steel to win the shoot out. I have to admit that I was nervous in when Beth Mead went first for England, scored but slipped when taking to penalty and was adjudged to have made double contact with the ball. This meant she had to take it again and her second effort was saved by the Spanish keeper. England got back on track however and it was Spain that faltered with Chloe Kelly's penalty rather fittingly seeing the win. Emotional scenes of celebration followed and well done to the entire England team, including those behind the scenes. I believe they will be having a victory parade through London on Tuesday and I am sure the streets will be absolutely packed.

Today we have one runner at Uttoxeter, Old Bridge, who runs in the final race on the card at 5.07pm, a handicap hurdle over 2m4f and Jack Tudor rides. This will actually be the last jumping action in Britain for nearly two weeks as National Hunt racing takes a mini-break. We are stepping Old Bridge up in trip today on a more galloping track suggested by Jack who felt he stayed going well enough last time at Newton Abbot to give this a try. It does look a competitive races for the grade but the handicapper has given us some further help and if he puts his best foot forward I think he has a decent each way chance.

It is a busy flat racing today with six meetings, the feature at Ascot with the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes Group 1 at 4.10pm. The favourite is French horse Calandagan who was second in the Coronation Cup at Epsom. He finished second to Jan Brueghel that day and he re-opposes this afternoon. There are only five runners but it looks a cracking little race and I would not like to say who will come out on top.

Ocean Heights runs at Haydock Today
We have our first runner of the week today, Ocean Heights runs on the flat at Sandown this evening. He runs in the opening contest on the card, the 5.45pm apprentice stakes over 1m2f and Jack Dace rides. He won two races in May over 1m4f and 1m2f and ran well to be placed twice afterwards also. He was disappointing at Kempton last time out but the wide draw and losing two front shoes were valid excuses. He ran well on this track and over this trip on the same card twelve months ago off a higher mark and I would like to think he has a good chance in this. The handicapper has given him a bit of help and our good young apprentice claims his valuable five pounds. He is 100/30 third best in the betting and fingers crossed he can give a good account.
