It was a great day for the yard yesterday with two winners from two runners at two different meetings.  Problema Tic won the big race of the day, staying on nicely to land The Perth Gold Cup by 3 1/2 lengths, picking up over £16,000 in prize money in the process.  I am sure that his owners will have had a quiet drink to celebrate!  The stable won the race in 2007 with Tamarinbleu who went on to Grade One success over fences.  Meanwhile on the flat at Nottingham, Street Entertainer abosolutely bolted up on his first on the level since 2010 and has the look of a well-treated horse.  He has quite a few entries over the coming week and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him turn out again under a penalty before the handicapper can have his say.

It looks like being a quiet day on the racing front with one meeting on the flat and one meeting over jumps.  The stable has a runner at both meetings - Problema Tic takes in the Perth Gold Cup up at the Scottish track.  As you would expect for the amount of prize money on offer, it is a very competitive handicap, but our charge did win at Ayr under similar conditions last year so hopefully he will be able to put in a bold show under Tom Scudamore.  Meanwhile classy hurdler Street Entertainer runs on the level for the first time since 2010 in the 1m6f handicap at Nottingham and will be ridden by Neil Callan.

There is plenty of racing to look forward to this afternoon with six meetings taking place on the flat at Haydock, Newmarket, Chester, Beverley, Catterick and Newbury, not to mention the jumps card at Stratford.  What I would like to know is how can Newbury get away with only offering £29,000 in prize money for their six race meeting?  I thought they were supposed to be a Grade One track?  I understand that you cannot have top quality racing at every meeting, but this is a poor effort when you consider that Stratford are offering £68,000 for their seven race card - plaudits to the Warwickshire track on a job well done!

It was good to see Frankie Dettori back in the winners' enclosure having won aboard Asian Trader at Sandown for Willie Haggas.  The Italian celebrated with his trademark flying dismount and announced that he was targetting 100 winners for the season.  Frankie has been a very silly boy but racing needs it's stars and they don't come much higher profile than Frankie.

It's a busy day ahead with five meetings taking place - three of them on the flat at Thirsk, Brighton and Sandown, while there are also two jumps fixtures at Ffos Las and Worcester.  The stable has runners at both jumps meetings, Kilrye and Oddjob (pictured above) at Ffos Las who are the mounts of Tom Scudamore, while Conor O'Farrell takes the ride aboard Standing Ovation at Worcester.  Standing Ovation did finish runner-up in a point-to-point and hopefully this quicker ground could help bring about some improvement.

Today there are five meetings taking place this afternoon - four on the flat at Ayr, Southwell, Ripon and Kempton as well as a jumps card at my local track, Newton Abbot which is just a few miles down the road from me at Brixham.  It looks like being another lovely day and I have to reiterate David's comments from his blog last week - there are few better places on a sunny summer afternoon than Newton Abbot races - if you are in the area, do make sure to pay the track a visit.  The stable has one runner this afternoon, Ladyvie who participates in the 5.20pm race.  Our six year old mare has some bits and pieces of form that suggest she can be competitive in a race of this nature, especially as she was a course winner on good/firm ground last season (pictured above).  Young Frank Hayes takes 7lbs off her back.

With the lovely weather looking set to continue, what better way to enjoy the sun than at a racemeeting?  There are four meetings to choose from this afternoon - three on the flat at Ripon, Lingfield and Yarmouth as well as a jumps card at Hexham.  The prize money isn't too clever however with only £23,000 on offer at Hexham and two of the races being worth less than £2,000 (and only £299 of that going to the third horse home).  Indeed, the place prize money on offer probably wouldn't even pay the expenses for the day!  The stable has no runners today, with our next racecourse representatives probably coming tomorrow at Newton Abbot.
