My Brother Sylvest completed the hat-trick when bolting up at Haydock yesterday afternoon. In the process he broke the course record (as indeed he had at Wincanton when winning the Sunday before) despite the burden of a double penalty. The eventual winning distance was 4 1/2 lengths but Conor O'Farrell was easing him down on the run-in and he was value for a bit more than that - it seems like the blinkers have really bought about some improvement in our five year old. Having already put him up by 16lbs for his first success it will be interesting to see what the handicapper makes of him completing the hat-trick. He is certainly on the upgrade and I would imagine that he will be kept busy and I wouldn't rule out a fourth consecutive win yet.

My Brother Sylvest bids to complete a quick-fire hat-trick at Haydock today having been taken out of his engagement at Chepstow yesterday. It was probably a wise move as it continued to rain all day at the Welsh track and by the end of racing the ground was officially soft and it looked really tough going. My Brother Sylvest will certainly appreciate the good/firm ground that is currently prevailing at Haydock and while he is burdened with a double penalty for his Exeter and Wincanton successes, some of that is offset by Conor O'Farrell's 3lbs claim. Part owner Michael Owen scored during Manchester United's 3-0 win over Aldershot last night, so let's hope that My Brother Sylvest and complete a couple of good days for the striker.

We have three runners at Chepstow this afternoon, My Brother Sylvest who is bidding to complete a quick hat-trick, Vincentian a useful bumper horse who makes his Pond House debut this afternoon and Barney Cool who seeks to follow-up his impressive debut bumper success. Conor O'Farrell will take the ride aboard My Brother Sylvest while Tom Scudamore will be aboard our other runners. One jockey who will not be at Chepstow however is Ruby Walsh who has decided to give up his six mounts following his suspension at the weekend. I can't say I blame him - the ride that he was banned for was copybook and yet he will miss some important races because of it...can our sport really afford to be without jockey's of Ruby Walsh's stature?

My Brother Sylvest absolutely hacked up again at Wincanton yesterday to supplement his victory at Exeter on Tuesday. He was an easy ten length winner in the hands of young conditional Conor O'Farrell and according to David he could be in for a busy week as he is entered at Chepstow on Tuesday and Uttoxeter on Thursday. I am sure the handicapper will take a dim view of his successes so he will surely run again before the assessor can have his say. It looks like being a busy day today with runners at both Aintree and Wincanton. Battle Group makes his seasonal debut at Liverpool, scene of his finest hour last season when winning the John Smith's Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3) at the Grand National meeting (pictured above). He will be partnered by Tom Scu who has elected to take the trip up north. We have three runners at Wincanton this afternoon and conditional jockey Conor O'Farrell rides Bathwick Man, Frosted Grape and My Brother Sylvest. My Brother Sylvest won in good style at Exeter earlier in the week and is turned out again quickly before the handicapper can have his say.

The stable has three runners this afternoon: two at Chepstow (Trop Fort and Shoegazer who will both be ridden by Tom Scudamore) and one at Stratford (Teshali with Conor O'Farrell in the saddle). It looks to be a very competitive day's action including an exciting clash between Master Minded and Albertas Run in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree. The big race of the day on the level is the Racing Post Trophy and the favourite is the Aidan O'Brien trained Camelot. Camelot cost connections £500,000 so they will be hoping to recoup some of that price tag with this £131,567.20 prize - I wonder what they would do with the odd 20 pence?!

We don't have any runners this afternoon, but I have been busy down on the gallops armed with the camera and I managed to capture a few old favourites as they went through their paces. First up was Swing Bill as he completed a solo gallop, while former Hennessy winner Madison du Berlais worked in company with former Victor Chandler winner Tamarinbleu. It was certainly good to see them all looking so well in the morning sunshine.
