The ground turned out to be bottomless at Ffos Las yesterday afternoon, turning the days action into a real slog. Our two runners in the maiden hurdle both performed creditably to finish second and third - Buddy Bolero was having his first outing over hurdles and should certainly be winning races in the future. Bathwick Brave also appeared to handle the ground quite well and produced an encouraging effort to finish a running-on third - he is another who should be winning before too long. We have one runner at Southwell this afternoon, Clever Dick, who makes his debut for the yard in the conditional jockeys' novices' hurdle and he will be partnered by Conor O'Farrell.

We have a couple of runners at Ffos Las this afternoon in the maiden hurdle - the promising pair Bathwick Brave and Buddy Bolero. Conor O'Farrell takes 3lbs off Bathwick Brave's back, while Tom Scudamore will ride Buddy Bolero who posted a good first effort for the yard when finishing fourth in a Fontwell bumper - he makes his first start over timber this afternoon.

I keep watching I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! Willie Carson is so small that he seems to be missing a lot of the bushtucker trials. Maybe the producers are too frightened to put the "Cackling Scot" in with a bath full of cockroaches in case he gets lost! I wonder how Clare Balding would get on in the jungle? Not so well I would suspect - I would imagine that Clare is one of those girls that likes her home comforts...you just have to look at her to see that there is never a hair out of place. When they work together for the BBC, Willie has a crate to stand on - I wonder what they would use in the jungle?...a kangaroo perhaps?

There is a great day's racing action ahead of us and the highlight is the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury, a race David won with Madison du Berlais in 2008. We are represented this afternoon by Paddy Power Gold Cup winner Great Endeavour who bids to complete the famous double that was last done by stablemate Celestial Gold in 2004 - fingers crossed for a repeat today. It is a fiercely competitive race, but our seven year old would have to carry another 6lbs if the handicapper had been able to alter the weights. He has placed form over this sort of trip over hurdles at Cheltenham on soft ground a couple of years ago, so I don't envisage stamina being an issue today.

What a great day for the yard again yesterday with a winner at three different tracks. Grands Crus was successful in the Grade Two novices' chase at Newbury and I thought that he posted a good performance there being a certain element of surprise about the proximity of the runner-up Sonofvic. Grands Crus was foot perfect at his fences and it just struck me that he was idling a bit when he went to the front - I also think time will tell that it was a top notch effort giving 7lbs and a beating to the second, who is clearly a very useful prospect in his own right.

The stable has runners at Newbury, Taunton and Uttoxeter this afternoon and the yard will be very busy sending boxes to the three different venues. It does take some organising with all the horses needing to be fed and weighed before leaving the yard. I am sure that all eyes will be on stable star Grands Crus as he makes his second start over fences at Newbury. Tom Scudamore rides our flying grey, while Piraya and Quocotiep complete our raiding party to the Berkshire track. Teshali, Arab League, Mr Chow and Ladyvie participate at our local track, Taunton, while we send Rose Of The Moon to Coventry (or should I say Uttoxeter?!) on his debut for us...it's a busy day!

We have just one runner this afternoon. High class staying handicap hurdler Battle Group travels all the way up to Wetherby to make his chasing debut. He proved to be a revalation last season over timber, winning on no fewer than five occasions, culminating in triumph at Aintree's Grand National meeting. He will be ridden by Tom Scudamore - let's hope that he can put in a clear round and make a successful start to his new career.
