It is a busy day with seven meetings taking place with flat fixtures from Newbury, Ripon, Newmarket, Doncaster and Bath while there are jumps cards from Perth and Market Rasen. David has one runner today as Three Star General contests the 2m7f handicap hurdle at 7.30pm. The form of our runner looks rock solid - he won a maiden hurdle at Worcester (from a subsequent winner) on good ground before finishing runner-up to another subsequent winner, also at Worcester on his latest start. He runs from a mark of 119 and is partnered by stable jockey Tom Scudamore - he looks sure to go close.

Sadly it is another day of flat action with five meetings taking place on the level at Nottingham, Newbury, Wolverhampton, Newmarket and Catterick. The Catterick meeting has just £30,000 in total prize money - if your horse were to finish fourth, you would picky up a heady £192.40 which would not even cover the expenses unless your horse was trained next door to the track. For the life of me, I cannot understand why the owners and trainers continue to run their horses at meetings where the prize money is so poor.

It was great to be back after the summer break and what better way to celebrate than with a winner?! Aldrin was an extremely impressive winner of the maiden hurdle at Bangor last night, scoring with any amount in hand from the favourite and he looks to be a very useful horse for this time of year and a follow-up could be on the cards. Meanwhile, both Aero Majestic and Keating showed promise on their first runs for the yard, finishing in third and fourth respectively at Newton Abbot and they should be winning something similar before long. Keating was having his first start since April and can only improve.

It's back to proper racing today with jumps cards from Newton Abbot and Bangor while there are flat cards from Beverley, Salisbury and Kempton. David has runners at both National Hunt fixtures; Skilful Lord, Keating and Aero Majestic at Newton Abbot and Aldrin and Celestial Path at Bangor. It is certainly good news to have the jumpers back following a week and a half without them...why does it seem like longer?!

It's the last day of the summer break today with flat action from Thirsk, Ffos Las, Chelmsford City and Nottingham. I can't wait for the jump racing to return tomorrow at Newton Abbot and Bangor, especially as David is likely to have runners at both meetings.

With jump racing returning on Wednesday there is light at the end of the tunnel! Today there are four meetings taking place with the action once again all coming on the flat with meetings from Ayr, Ripon, Windsor and Wolverhampton. As such it is therefore Unsurprising that there are no runners from Pond House. There was a fabulous finish to the Group One contest at Deauville yesterday with Frankie Dettori coming out on top in a thrilling three-way photograph. Meanwhile, Jamie Spencer scooped the Listed and Group Three contests for Luca Cumani and Charlie Appleby so it was a good day for the Brits abroad.

Today there are flat cards at Leicester and Windsor and there is a jumps meeting at Downpatrick and a flat meeting at the Curragh on ATR. There is a 7F seller at Leicester, it a shame it is not over a bit further but Leicester is a fairly stiff track. I see that the Brighton Football chairman Tony Bloom sponsored at his local track. It is his clubs first season in the Premiership and he has said that as long as they finish in the top 17 he'll be happy but who knows, the top six would be nice! I personally think they will do very well to avoid relegation, sorry Tony.
