There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Wincanton and Carlisle as well as all-weather flat cards from Southwell and Newcastle. David has two runners at Wincanton this afternoon; Top Wood and Arkadios. Top Wood (pictured above) carries top weight in the staying handicap chase at 2.55pm. He looks to be on a reasonable mark now, 6lbs lower than his last winning rating although he does need to bounce back to form. Meanwhile, Arkadios contests the 2m novices' hurdle at 3.30pm and he needs to improve on what he has shown so far to figure - Michael Heard is in the saddle and claims 5lbs off his back.

This afternoon we have three meetings taking place following the abandonment of Fontwell. That leaves us with jumping action from Catterick and a couple of all-weather flat meetings from Lingfield and Kempton. David was due to run Great Tempo (pictured above) this afternoon in the 2m3f handicap hurdle but the abandonment leaves us with no runners today. Martabot finished runner-up in the conditional jockeys handicap hurdle at Exeter yesterday and while it was a decent performance trying to concede 8lbs to the winner, I must admit that I did think he was going to win. Still, there was more than enough encouragement to suggest that he will be winning something similar before too long, especially when he learns to settle a little better.

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Exeter and Newcastle as well as an all-weather flat fixture from Southwell. We run Martabot in the 4.50pm race at Exeter. Our six year old carries 11-12 in this 2m1f handicap hurdle for conditional jockeys and Harry Reed takes 3lbs off his back. Martabot was in the process of running a nice race when slipping on the bend last time at Lingfield so hopefully he can build on that promise. Meanwhile stable jockey Tom Scudamore travels all the way up to Newcastle for a couple of rides including his brother's Two Smoking Barrels who looks to have a good chance in the 3.40pm race.

There are three meetings today, jumps cards at Southwell and Lingfield plus a flat card at Wolverhampton. David does not have any runners but Tom Scu goes to Southwell for a couple of outside rides. Grace Tara looks his best chance for brother Michael in the 3.30pm race. Both Shotavodka and Taws finsihed third on Saturday. Taws was third in a Listed contest at Doncaster and surely a win is not too far way. Shotavodka was a good third in the Veterans chase at Newbury, Tom gave him a great ride and he came there looking like the winner just to get tired in the last half a furlong. He should soon win off his present handicap mark. Definitely Red won a good 3m2f handicap chase at Doncaster on Saturday, the Grimthorpe. He has now been backed for the Grand National and I see he is now 20/1 with some of the firms.

There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Huntingdon and Sedgefield. David does not have any runners today but stable jockey Tom Scudamore makes the long journey north to ride at Sedgefield and he appears to have picked up some nice mounts. Meanwhile, there is an excellent card over in Ireland at Leopardstown - it looks like a day of for Gordon Elliott as he only has two runners...I wonder what he will do with himself for the remainder of the meeting?!

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Doncaster, Newbury and Kelso while there are all-weather fixtures from Lingfield and Newcastle. David has one runner at both Doncaster and Newbury today with Taws contesting the Listed mares' novices' hurdle at Doncaster at 3pm and Shotavodka in the oldies race at Newbury. Taws finished an excellent second to Finian's Oscar last time and while she has to improve again on that bare form, she should improve for the longer trip and is not without hope under Daryl Jacob. Meanwhile, stable jockey Tom Scudamore heads to Newbury for the mount aboard old favourite Shotavodka in the veteran's handicap chase. He is pictured above winning the race last year and is only 1lb higher this time around - true, he is another year older but he retains all of his enthusiasm and ran a good race when third over timber on his penultimate start. A repeat of that effort would see him go well. David also has a rare runner on the all-weather as Juste Pour Nous makes his debut for the stable at Lingfield with Dougie Costello in the saddle.

The stable was back among the winners yesterday when Perspicace landed the seller at Taunton. He ran out the ready winner under Michael Heard and was bought back in at the subsequent auction. This represented a drop in class and he did look different geat to the rest of the field - he should be up to winning more sellers or claimers. This type of race gives horses who are badly handicapped a good opportunity to get back to winning ways, they also provide opportunities for trainers to pick up a bargain and furthermore they also generate revenue for the racecourse...it still baffles me why they don't have more of them. Meanwhile, The Two Amigos also ran well to finish runner-up in the concluding novices' handicap hurdle and it should not be long before he is winning.
