Today there are three meetings taking place with two jumps cards from Taunton and Towcester as well as an all-weather flat fixture for Wolverhampton.  The stable has just the one runner today; Bella who competes in the mares' novices' hurdle.  Our filly fell at the track last time out when it looked as though she would play a hand in the finish - the bookmakers have her priced up as an 11/4 chance and in receipt of weight from all her rivals, she should run well under Tom Scudamore.  Can you believe that Wolverhampton are allowed to get away with £32,000 in prize money for their eight race card?  The trouble is, as long as owners are willing to run for peanuts, the courses will keep pushing their luck.

There are just two jumps meetings taking place this afternoon and while the stable does not have any runners, it is a very different tale for our jockeys - it clearly is a case of 'have saddle, will travel' for them.  Conor O'Farrell has four rides at Wincanton, while Tom Scudamore heads all the way to Market Rasen for just one ride, although I am not sure I would get too excited about it!  The paper I read has a section called 'Job Jockeys' and they include A P McCoy who rides for Imagine The Chat for Rebecca Curtis - A P has ridden 96 winners from 318 rides for her...sound as though he is a pretty good job jockey to me!

Border Breaker ran out a ready winner of the boys' race at Newbury yesterday under another finely judged front running ride from Michael Heard.  They appeared to score with a bit in hand and our improving six year old could go to Hexham on Tuesday where he would escape a penalty.  You just need two tankful's of diesel to get you there!  Also at Newbury, I thought that Willem ran much better as well yesterday to finish fourth in a decent handicap hurdle and it is good to see David's horses continuing to run well as they have all season long.

There are four meetings taking place today with two jumps cards from Newbury and Sedgefield as well as all-weather flat fixtures from Lingfield and Wolverhampton.  The stable has two runners at Newbury; Willem and Border Breaker.  Border Breaker (pictured above) was a winner last time out at Taunton when partnered by today's jockey Michael Heard.  I don't think the handicapper has taken any chances putting him on a mark of 116 although conditions should suit and he should go well once again.  Willem disappointed on his first start for the stable at Ascot but he had some decent form in the book back in France and he is clearly capable of a better show - Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.

There was another good winner for the stable yesterday when Purple 'N Gold prevailed in a close finish to land the very competitive handicap hurdle under conditional jockey Kieron Edgar.  Owners Lynne and Keith Webb have been supporters of the stable since Martin's early years as a trainer so it was good to see their colours in the winners' enclosure again.  His was the best time of the day, although hopefully the handicapper won't be too hard as he only won by a head!  He has been a model of consistency since we bought him cheaply from a claimer, running on sixteen occasions over hurdles, winning three times and only finishing out of the frame on two occasions - I am sure David would like a few more like him!

Today we have four meetings taking place with two jumps cards at Haydock and Warwick as well as all-weather flat action from Chelmsford City and Kempton.  David has two runners at Haydock this afternoon as both Street Entertainer (Conor O'Farrell) and Purple 'N Gold (pictured above, Kieron Edgar) compete in the handicap hurdle at 2.10pm - the bookies go 4/1 the field so that tells you all you need to know about this wide open looking handicap.

It was another good day for the stable yesterday as we enjoyed a double at our local track courtesy of Perspicace and Vayland in the two divisions of the novices' hurdle at Taunton.  I have to say that I was particularly impressed by our first winner Perspicace who was making his debut for the stable and was having his first outing over hurdles.  He jumped well and won with quite a bit in hand and looks just the type to follow-up under a penalty.  Meanwhile bumper winner Vayland (pictured above) had to work slightly harder to reward odds-on backers, although he is only young and already looks like a chaser in the making.
