There are five meetings taking place on these shores this afternoon with flat action from Ascot, Pontefract, Wolverhampton and Brighton, while the new National Hunt season gets underway at Cheltenham with their hunter chase meeting.  Meanwhile over in Ireland it is the second day of the Punchestown Festival and David is currently travelling over there as he saddles Moon Racer for the Champion Bumper at 6.05pm.  The thirteen runners have won 23 races between them while Moon Racer is unbeaten in three starts including the Cheltenham Festival Bumper last year.  He seems to go on any ground and he will get maximum assistance in the saddle with Jamie Codd booked for this amateur riders' contest - a big run is expected.

This afternoon there are five flat cards from Nottingham, Brighton, Bath, Lingfield and Wolverhampton but if you want a bit of jumping action you will need to look to Ireland where it is the first day of the Punchestown Festival.  There is some cracking action taking place and a few stars on show, including Ryanair Chase winner Vautour - a few of our jump jockeys have made the journey across the Irish Sea and it is hardly surprising given the prize money on offer.  David has one runner this afternoon on the level at Lingfield as Honeymoon Cocktail contests the middle distance handicap under Dane O'Neill and he looks to have claims.

There are five meetings this afternoon and with the end of the jumps campaign, all five fixtures are on the level. The action comes from Ayr, Chelmsford City, Southwell, Windsor and Wolverhampton. It was a great final day of the season at Sandown on Saturday and there were two standout performances - Menorah who gave jockey Richard Johnson a winning ride on the day he was finally crowned champion jockey and of course, Sprinter Sacre...what a comeback the latter has made this season to once again be the king of the two milers.

It is a busy day of racing action with six meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Doncaster, Haydock, Leicester, Ripon and Wolverhampton while the most important meeting is the National Hunt season finale from Sandown.  This is the meeting that will decide the trainers' championship and Willie Mullins has plenty of runners over from Ireland.  The 4.10pm race is the big one, the Bet365 Gold Cup (formerly The Whitbread) and it is worth £150,000.  David runs Dynaste (pictured above) there and Tom Scudamore is in the saddle - as you would expect this is a very competititve race but this represents a drop in grade for our grey who finished a creditable fourth behind Cue Card at Aintree last time.  Indeed, this is the first time he has run in a handicap since he won the Fixed Brush Hurdle at Haydock in 2011.  David also runs Dell' Arca in the twenty runner handicap hurdle at 5.55pm.  If you are thinking of going along, make sure that you give yourself plenty of time - it is going to be busy!

The stable had another nice winner yesterday when Impulsive American landed his second Scottish win in less than a week.  Our four year old has been busy this season but he certainly seems to be thriving as he stayed on well under conditional jockey David Noonan to land his third win of the season.  He was officially 8lbs ahead of the handicapper and I did say that if he ran to form he would be difficult to beat.  Meanwhile, Perspicace produced his best effort in a while to finish runner-up at Exeter - he could have bumped into a useful winner in Fort Carson and I wouldn't be surprised to see that one turned out again quickly under a penalty.  Prideofthecastle was also second at Warwick - he stayed the longer trip of 3m5f well and he was conceding 12lbs to the winner so this was a good performance and it is good to see the Pond House team in good form as the season draws to a close.

       Impulsive American Schooling
It is a busy day on the racing front with five meetings, four jumps cards at Perth, Warwick, Exeter and Market Rasen plus a flat card at Beverley.  David has six runners at three of the jumps meetings.  Impulsive American runs in the 5.05pm at Perth.  He bolted up at Ayr over this trip last weekend and he runs off the same handicap mark of 120.  A similar run will make him hard to beat and he is looking for his third win in Scotland this season.  He has in form jockey David Noonan on board, David had a double at Taunton last night.  Prideofthecastle runs at Warwick at 4.10.  Although trying a new trip the better ground should help and Conor O'Farrell rides.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Epsom, Catterick and Lingfield as well as jumps fixtures from our local track Taunton and Perth.  David runs Baby Sherlock in the novices' hurdle at Taunton at 6.05pm.  Our full brother to Red Sherlock finished third in a bumper at the track last time out, although this looks like a competitive contest and he will need to improve further to figure in the finish here and his odds of 14/1 are a fair reflection of his chances.
