There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with action on the level from Bath, Beverley and Thirsk while there is a rare sight - a jumps card from Worcester!  David runs two at Worcester in the staying handicap chase at 6.30pm; For 'N' Against and Dusk Till Dawn.  For 'N' Against (pictured above) won a chase at Market Rasen on good ground under a good ride from Tom Scudamore but he is 7lbs higher today and this looks to be a tougher race.  Meanwhile Dusk Till Dawn was disappointing at Newton Abbot last time and remains 8lbs above his last winning mark although David Noonan claims a useful 3lbs off his back.

It is very much feast or famine at present when it comes to National Hunt action!  Following three jumps fixtures yesterday, there are none once again today with all the action on the level from Ayr, Chelmsford City, Windsor and Wolverhampton.  The stable drew a blank yesterday with Purple 'N Gold running yet another creditable race to finish fourth in the competitive handicap chase at Stratford.  Having looked likely to finish tailed off, he stayed on well in the closing stages and definitely needs another half a mile judged on this evidence.  Meanwhile Junior Package showed some improvement to finish runner-up in the conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle under David Noonan although I was surprised to see him sent off favourite.

Good news for all fans of the jumps...the National Hunt action is back with three meetings this afternoon from Perth, Stratford and Southwell...race planning at it's very best once again!  David has three runners this afternoon as Perspicace, Purple 'N Gold and Junior Package do duty at Stratford.  Perspicace (pictured above) has joint top-weight of 11-12 having won his last couple of starts over timber so he has been in good form although this will require another improved performance from a career-high mark.  Purple 'N Gold contests a very competitive handicap chase and he rarely runs a bad race although he could perhaps do with a bit further these days, while Junior Package needs to improve on what he has shown thus far although conditional jockey David Noonan claims a handy 3lbs off his back.

It is another busy day of racing with six meetings taking place this afternoon.  The action is once again all on the flat with the action coming from Newmarket, York, Ascot, Chester, Salisbury and Hamilton.  Nevermind, at least the jump racing returns tomorrow with three fixtures...what on earth are race planning thinking?  No jumping for four days (including a Saturday) and then three fixtures on a Sunday - surely that is not the best way to promote allocate fixtures?  I digress, once again...the big race of the day is the July Cup at Newmarket and 18 runners go to post, that is a huge field for Group One contest.

I'm afraid jumps fans have to go without for another couple of days as there are six fixtures taking place this afternoon and they are all on the level.  The action comes from Newmarket, Ascot, York, Chepstow, Chester and Musselburgh.  Chepstow and Chester take place tonight so at least it gives some of the jockeys the opportunity to ride at two meetings.  There is an interesting race for lady amateur riders and I always look for Miss S Brotherton as she is head and shoulders above her contemporaries - she takes the ride aboard Call Out Loud for Michael Appleby and for that reason alone they look to have a good chance.

There are five flat meetings taking place this afternoon with the action coming from Newmarket, Doncaster, Carlisle, Newbury and Epsom.  I would love to know how a supposed 'Grade One' track such as Newbury can get away with just £40,000 in prize money for their seven race card?  Over at Newmarket I see that Aidan O'Brien brings three runners across and they are all to be partnered by Ryan Moore.  Furthermore none of them are forecast favourite - I can't see them leaving empty handed.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon and they are all on the level.  Indeed, if you are a fan of the jumps you are right out of luck until Sunday when there are three (yes, three!) jumping fixtures.  I know I keep banging on about it, but the race planning committee really does need a shake-up.  It is at this time of the year that the program becomes even more fragmented - why on earth can we not go back to a clear start and end to the season with a nice break of a month or so in between, rather than just a few blank days here and there during the summer?  Anyway, I digress...the action today comes Yarmouth, Lingfield, Catterick, Bath and Kempton.  Unsurprisingly the stable does not have any runners today.
