It was a frustrating day for David on Saturday, while the horses ran very well, he hit the crossbar no fewer than four times with Vieux Lion Rouge, Dynaste, Fingertips and Broadway Buffalo all finishing second - that includes the big races at both Ascot and Haydock. Vieux Lion Rouge was runner-up in the Listed handicap chase at Ascot and considering this was only his fifth start over fences, he remains a promising type for all the long distance handicaps. Meanwhile Fingertips ran an extraordinary race in the handicap hurdle, looking to have no chance turning in before flying up the straight to finish second - a very good performance from a four year old given the conditions. Dynaste and Broadway Buffalo also ran well to fill the second spots at Ascot and Haydock respectively and both picked up good prize money in the process. I would imagine that all of the above will now be heading to the Cheltenham Festival next month.

Today there are just two meetings taking place with jumps action from Ffos Las and Market Rasen. Tom Scudamore and David Noonan travel to Ffos Las for their mounts - Tom has picked up the mount aboard Apache Outlaw for Rebecca Curtis in 2.00pm race and judged on his third last time he would have solid claims. Having said that, not all of the Curtis horses have been firing lately. He also takes the mount aboard Twenty Eight Guns for his brother Michael at 4.15pm. Conditional jockey David Noonan rides Johns Luck for the Mulholland stable although it looks as though it is going to be a tricky day for the Pond House jockeys.

There is a big day of action to look forward to with jumps cards from Ascot, Haydock and Wincanton as well as an all-weather fixture from Lingfield. The stable has runners at Ascot and Haydock. Vieux Lion Rouge contests the Listed Handicap Chase at Ascot at 2.25pm - he unseated rider last time but was previously a good winner at Haydock. Meanwhile, juvenile Fingertips runs in the 3.00pm race which looks extremely competitive as you would expect of a race with £45,000 in prize money. He was in the process of running a big race when coming to grief at the last at Sandown last time but he gets in here on a nice weight of 10-2 and deserves his place in the line-up. Dynaste (pictured above) was disappointing last time out over timber but reverts to fences with a pair of first time blinkers and it will be interesting to see how he gets on against old foe Silviniaco Conti in the Betfair Chase at 3.35pm. What A Moment completes the line-up at 4.10pm and he is a promising individual.

We have four meetings to look forward to this afternoon with jumps action from Sandown and Fakenham (who after inspecting at 7.30am have now set a second inspection for 10.30am) while there are all-weather flat fixtures from Lingfield and Wolverhampton - the stable has no runners this afternoon. We drew a blank yesterday with Soll putting in a somewhat laboured effort at Kelso where he finished third in the Ivan Straker Memorial Chase. He handles soft ground but perhaps he would just prefer it a bit better these days? Pilgrims Bay also finished third in the handicap hurdle, while Prideofthecastle was fourth at Leicester on only his second start over fences and he is another who looks likely to prefer better ground to me.

It was a memorable day for the stable and the Scudamore family at Musselburgh yesterday as Impulsive American bolted up by nine lengths in the maiden hurdle. The winner was the 1,000th success of Tom's career which is a marvellous achievement and he joins his father amongst others in the very exclusive band of people to have achieved this. In doing so they became the first father and son combination to ever achieve the feat. I thought I had just better mention this this morning otherwise Tom's wife Lottie will be on barking in my shell-like! Impulsive American won well and provided the handicapper does not go crazy, he looks as though he will be competitive in handicaps from this sort of mark.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps action from Towcester (who have survived an 8am inspection) and Musselburgh as well as all-weather flat cards from Kempton and Lingfield. The stable has runners at both jumps meetings and Tom Scudamore travels up to Scotland for the ride aboard Impulsive American in the 2.15pm race at Musselburgh. Our four year old has been consistent thus far without managing to get his head in front and he ran as well as ever last time out and gets in with only 10-11 due to his four year old's allowance. He certainly has the ability to win a race of this nature and the Racing Post have put him in as the jolly.

The stable had another nice winner yesterday as Bella (pictured above) won the mares' novices' hurdle at Plumpton with the minimum of fuss under conditional jockey David Noonan. The biggest surprise was that she drifted to 11/10 having been long odds-on in the morning. It sometimes makes you wonder what is going on...it was better than having money in the bank! It was yet another excellent piece of placement by David who has now won three times with the mare and accumulated over £42,000 in prize money with her this season.
