In case you missed it yesterday, the hot news off the press is that Tom Scudamore has had his five day ban that he was given for his ride in the Becher Chase at Aintree aboard Soll overturned on appeal.  The incident occurred just before the famous elbow on the run-in as Tom held his line and stopped one of his rivals from going for an optimistic run up his inner.  Tom is there to do his best for his owner and trainer and not to say 'after you old boy' to his rivals - his actions were no different to a racing driver holding his line and had he let one through he would have incurred the wrath of pundits and punters alike.  I am pleased to see a rare victory for common sense.  I wonder if there will be any action against the instigator?

Good news!  Tom Scudamore has just had the five day ban awarded to him at Aintree racecourse for his ride aboard Soll in the Becher Chase overturned upon appeal.

Today we have four meetings four meetings with jumps cards from Ludlow and Newbury as well as flat cards from Lingfield and Kempton.  David has runners at both of the jumps fixtures - we run Closer To Home and The Minkle at Newbury.  Closer To Home won his last race on the flat in France on soft ground and has schooled well at home and he is partnered this afternoon by Kieron Edgar who claims 3lbs off his back.  The Minkle has had just one run to date and would need to improve on that effort to figure in what looks to be a hot maiden hurdle.  It is a busy day at Ludlow with five runners; Junior Package, Skylander, My Brother Sylvest, Katkeau and Mozo.  Katkeau (pictured above) was a ready winner of his chase debut at Fakenham on good/soft ground - he jumps and stays well and should go close under Tom Scu, while Mozo was runner-up in a novices' hurdle last time on bottomless ground and also looks to have decent prospects.

This afternoon we have three meetings with jumping from Catterick supported by a couple of all-weather flat cards from Southwell and Kempton.  The stable has no runners today after drawing a blank at Ffos Las yesterday.  Heath Hunter ran a solid race to finish second and looked as though he would appreciate a slightly longer trip - the winner of that race Clyne looks to be well handicapped from a mark of 115 although he is bound to take a bit of a hike for this.  Both Baraka de Thaix and Saint John Henry finished third and should come down a few pounds in the weights.

The stable had a nice winner at the weekend when Gevrey Chambertin bolted up at Lingfield on Saturday.  It had been a while since our grey gelding had put his best foot forward but they say that form is temporary and class is permanent and our former Fixed Brush Hurdle winner looked different class even under top weight of 11-12.  It was certainly good to see him back in the winners' enclosure so let's hope that he can continue in his current vein of form.

There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon, both over jumps from Carlisle and Southwell.  The stable has one runner at Carlisle; Mango Cap who makes his debut for the stable in the 12.15pm race - a 2m1f novices' hurdle.  There are eleven runners and Mango Cap has to concede a penalty to all of his rivals for winning last time out in France.  He showed a decent level of form over there and he looks to hold sound claims today.  Of course, there has been plenty of rain in the vicinity so the ground is likely to be very testing so if you are contemplating having a wager make sure your horse will handle the going.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Cheltenham, Doncaster and Lingfield as well as a couple of all-weather flat fixtures from Southwell and Wolverhampton.  David has runners at both Doncaster and Lingfield but not at Cheltenham which is unusual.  Drumlee Lad and Weather Babe go at Doncaster and Conor O'Farrell takes the mount aboard the latter.  Weather Babe (pictured above) has been extremely consistent and our seven year old recorded a personal best last time in a decent novices' chase at Cheltenham - this represents another step up in class although she is still expected to go well.
