There are just three meetings taking place this afternoon with three flat meetings coming from Goodwood, Beverley and Yarmouth - hard luck I'm afraid if you are a fan of the jumps on a Bank Holiday weekend. Still we will have some runners at Cartmel tomorrow so it is not all doom and gloom! The ground at Goodwood and Yarmouth this afternoon is good/firm while Beverley have clearly had a bit more of the wet stuff as their official going is good/soft. Let's hope the ground doesn't get too quick as I would imagine there will be a whole host of non-runners.

Today there are five meetings taking place with flat action from Goodwood, Beverley, Newmarket, Windsor and Redcar while there is a jumps card from Cartmel. David has four runners at Cartmel over the Bank Holiday meeting - Port Navas (pictured above) makes his seasonal debut today in the 2.15pm race, while he has three runners on Monday. Port Navas is a 10/1 chance according to the Racing Post having finished fourth at Exeter last time over a much longer trip. He would need to improve on what he has shown so far to figure. Cartmel is a great track to visit, although probably not the easiest to get into on a Bank Holiday. If you are thinking of going, make sure that you give yourself plenty of time

We were joined by a few of the team from Exeter racecourse (pictured above) yesterday as they were on a bit of a staff day out. It was good to see them (especially the young ladies!) and they were given a tour of the yard and watched some of the horses in action on the gallops.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Musselburgh, Leicester and Wolverhampton while there are a couple of jumps fixtures from Fontwell and Sedgefield. I won't go on but Wolverhampton offer only £30,000 for their seven race card - very poor! David has no runners today although both Tom Scudamore and David Noonan head off to Fontwell for some outside rides.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with action from Lingfield, Catterick, Musselburgh and Kempton while there is a jumps card from Stratford. David runs two at Stratford; Thunder Pass in the 5.20pm race a 2m2 1/2f maiden hurdle. He was a useful performer on the flat but would need to improve on his hurdles form so far to figure here and he is a 12/1 chance. Meanwhile Purple 'N' Gold contests the 2m3 1/2f handicap chase - he doesn't know how to run a bad race and he is forecast favourite so another big run is expected.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Yarmouth, Chelmsford City and Newbury as well as a jumps fixture from Southwell. Tom Scudamore has picked up an outside ride in the 2.15pm race aboard paper favourite Presenting Streak - the pair were successful last time out at Stratford and I reckon the 'one ride theory' could work with this one!

There are four flat cards taking place this afternoon with action from Brighton, Carlisle, Thirsk and Kempton. As far as I am concerned the most interesting race of the day is the eighteen runner seller from Thirsk run over a mile. It is a shame the race isn't over a couple of furlongs further as it would certainly have generated some interest from the jumps trainers. It just goes to show that sellers are relevant and indeed needed as this one has the biggest field of the whole day.
