Today we have four flat cards at Ayr, Wolverhampton, Windsor and Ffos Las but there is more prize money on offer at the jumps card at Ballinrobe! Leicester put on a great family day yesterday. They had lots of things for the kids to do, pony rides, waterslides and something called a medieval fun slide. I think maybe that's just a fun slide for the old! They also had a big screen by the paddock covering the Community Shield. Don't forget Leicester were in the match, mind you they lost 2-1 to Man United. This was a a great idea from Leicester racecourse as these courses have got to put on more entertainment to get people through the gates.

There are flat meetings from Leicester, Windsor and Chelmsford City this afternoon, while over in Ireland there is a Group One on the card from the Curragh with over £142,000 up for grabs. It has only attracted five runners which is quite extraordinary and it looks to be another O'Brien family benefit as they have three of them! I bet some of the courses wonder what the point is in putting up big money only to attract small fields.

It has been a long week without any jump racing but there is light at the end of the tunnel as National Hunt returns next week! There are six meetings on the level to keep us occupied this afternoon with action from Ascot, Haydock, Newmarket, Redcar, Ayr and Lingfield. If you are that desperate for a bit of jumping, there is a fixture from Kilbeggan in Ireland. Back over here it is Shergar Cup day at Ascot and while the prize money is nothing extraordinary, it does receive plenty of publicity and there is sure to be a full house to see the big fields (they even have two reserves in every race!). It is extremely competitive and there isn't a short-priced favourite to be seen with Sea Of Heaven the shortest jolly at 11/4 in the 1.45pm race.

Day five of our summer jumps sabbatical and there are five flat meetings taking place this afternoon. The action comes from Musselburgh, Brighton, Wolverhampton, Newmarket and Haydock. Despite the plenty of fixtures it hasn't stopped some of our domestic trainers seeking opportunities abroad - yesterday it was Jamie Osborne and Andrew Balding travelling to Ovrevoll, now trainer Charlie Hills tries his luck in Spain. He will run one in the 1m3f race at San Sebatian on Monday, it is worth over £30,000 to the winner and it should be warm and sunny. Sounds good to me.

Day four of our summer jumps sabbatical and there are six flat fixtures taking place this afternoon. The action comes from Brighton, Haydock, Yarmouth, Sandown, Newcastle and Wolverhampton. You would not believe it is August with the amount of non-runners owing to the changes in going overnight. The going at Brighton and Bath yesterday was good to soft, while over at Sligo it was heavy...so much for the great British summer!

Day three of our summer jumps racing sabbatical and there are five cards on the level to look forward to. The action today comes from Pontefract, Brighton, Bath, Yarmouth and Kempton. The wooden spoon goes to Bath (why am I surprised) who offer just £28,000 in prize money across their seven race card. Surely the prize money cannot get any lower?

Day two of our annual jumps sabbatical so the four meetings taking place today are all on the level with the action coming from Salisbury, Catterick, Nottingham and Chelmsford City. The most prize money on offer is over in Ireland with Cork offering a very healthy £167,000. Looking through the Irish card it is interesting to see Brendan Powell and Mick Channon have runners in the 8.25pm race - it is a Group 3 contest for fillies and mares. Champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa rides the Channon trained Harlequeen and the three year old has some good form and should go close.
