Today and in fact the whole week is all about the flat with the jumps action taking a break for a week. Today we have flat meetings at Ripon, Kempton, Windsor and Carlisle. There are two meetings in Ireland at Naas and Cork and they both have more prize money on offer than the cards over here and Cork is a jumps card. There are loads of runners at Cork, the 3.35pm race has 24 runners and three reserves! I always think having reserves is a good idea just in case any horses drop out. The card at Carlisle is a seven race fixture with all runners in every race being ridden by lady jockey's. Serena Brotherton looks to have a good book of rides and she is an amateur, but a very good one! There are quite a lot of professionals in action as well, Hayley Turner, Megan Nicholls, and Shelly Birkett to name a few, A likely winner on the Carlisle card for me is a horse called Honeysuckle Lil in the 7.15pm with Rachel Richardson on board. This girl can ride and I think she has a great chance of a winner.

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with two flat fixtures from Chester and Chepstow and a jumps card from Market Rasen. Tom Scudamore and Conor O'Farrell have both picked up outside rides at Market Rasen and it is particularly good to see Conor back in action after a nasty fall a couple of weeks ago.

There is a busy day of racing ahead with no less than six meetings taking place. The bad news for fans of the jumps is that they are all on the flat with action coming from Doncaster, Goodwood, Hamilton, Lingfield, Newmarket and Thirsk. There are some tricky looking races at Goodwood this afternoon with the Stewards Cup and it's consolation race - both twenty eight runner sprint handicaps, talk about a commentator's nightmare. Having said that, I did say that Franklin D was a good thing in the nineteen runner Betfred Mile and he duly obliged...albeit just! According to bookmakers he was the best backed horse of the year, although we are only collecting thanks to a masterful ride from Ryan Moore.

There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with action on the flat from Goodwood, Thirsk, Newmarket, Bath and Musselburgh, while there is a jumps fixture from Bangor. Tom Scudamore has picked up an outside ride at the meeting while conditional jockey David Noonan has three, although they may struggle to get a winner today. Tom had a good day yesterday, riding a double at Stratford.

Impulsive American couldn't follow-up his chase success of Tuesday evening in the handicap hurdle at Perth yesterday afternoon, although he once again performed with enormous credit by finishing a good second. He was 12lbs higher than when last scoring over timber, so he is clearly still very much on the upgrade. He still picked up over £9,000 for two days work so it made the trip well worthwhile.

It was a good day for the stable yesterday as Impulsive American won the novices' chase at Perth last night taking his tally over fences to two out of two. He has been an amazing little horse for the stable since joining us last season, winning twice on the flat, three times over hurdles and now twice over fences. He seems to like it up in Scotland as that is now his fifth win north of the border! His task was made somewhat easier when his sole rival; Hostile Fire took a fatal fall at the third last - our thoughts are with his connections. Meanwhile both Lady Of Longstone and Skylander performed creditably at Worcester and should both be capable of winning races over the coming months.

Today we have five meetings taking place with flat action from Goodwood, Beverley and Yarmouth while there are National Hunt fixtures from Perth and Worcester. The stable has two runners at Worcester; Skylander and Lady Of Longstone, while Impulsive American (pictured above) is on duty at Perth. Impulsive American takes in a two runner novices' chase and the Post make him the 1/2 favourite to maintain his unbeaten record over fences. He looks like a good thing on these terms although these two runner races are invariably trappy - Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.
