It is a busy Bank Holiday Monday with six meetings taking place this afternoon. We have action on the flat from Epsom, Ripon, Chepstow and Newcastle, while there are jumps cards from Cartmel and Huntingdon. The stable has one runner today as Street Entertainer (pictured above) makes the long journey up to Cartmel to run 3m1 1/2f handicap hurdle at 5.10pm. It is a longer trip for him today and our representative is burdened with top-weight - he is tough, consistent and versatile but is still 4lbs higher than his best winning mark. Stable jockey Tom Scudamore is aboard and while it is a very competitive race (as it should be for £18,500) he would have claims if lasting out this longer trip. The track has avoided most of the rain that we have endured so the good going will suit.

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with action from Beverley, Goodwood and Yarmouth so yet more flat action and nothing over the sticks. Even so, it is good that racing resumes at Yarmouth - they have relaid the surface and it has taken time for the grass to grow back. There is a competitive card today and hopefully the new surface will get the thumbs up from those competing and ensure that it is well supported in the future. ARC could certainly do with taking a leaf out of their book - the ground at Brighton on Tuesday was atrocious and the meeting had to survive no fewer than five inspections before being given the go-ahead. I suppose ARC was quite appropriate as the animals were coming home two by two!

There are a further six meetings taking place this afternoon with five flat fixtures from Goodwood, Newmarket, Beverley, Windsor and Redcar as well as a National Hunt card from Cartmel. So that is twelve meetings over the last couple of days and only one of them over the sticks...I don't think I need to elaborate! Redcar get the wooden spoon today with just £30,000 on offer which I think is extremely poor for a Saturday fixture. I still firmly believe that owners and trainers should boycott these tracks where prize money is so poor - as long as the horses keep getting entered, the tracks will continue to take the mickey. Tom Scudamore makes the long journey to Cartmel for a couple of rides for James Moffatt, the best of which looks to be Fantasy King, let's hope he can ride a winner otherwise it is going to be a long drive home for him!

The stable enjoyed a nice winner yesterday at Stratford as Low Key (pictured above) won the maiden hurdle by a facile nineteen lengths. He didn't jump as well as he can do and was slow at a few of his hurdles so there is room for further improvement from him, especially when his jumping sharpens up. Our other jumpers also performed creditably with Spending Time a close third on the same card - he looks a nice chasing type to me, while Vayland was second, beaten only a length under Daryl Jacob at Sedgefield and he looks like a winner waiting to happen.

There are five meetings taking place today with three jumps cards from Stratford, Southwell and Sedgefield as well as flat fixtures from Musselburgh and Wolverhampton. Considering there was no National Hunt action on Monday or Wednesday you would have to say that is a lousy piece of race planning for all those jockeys. David runs Spending Time and Low Key at Stratford and Vayland at Sedgefield. Low Key has run well in better races than this on his last couple of starts and would not need to improve an awful lot to hold major claims under Tom Scudamore. Spending Time was a long way behind Sutton Storm last time out but I think he will be a lot closer this time, while Vayland (pictured above) is the highest rated in the Sedgefield novices' hurdle and he will be partnered by Daryl Jacob.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon, all of them on the flat from Catterick, Musselburgh, Lingfield, Kempton and Bath. Once again Bath are bringing up the rear in terms of prize money with just £30,000 spread across their seven race card. David had one runner on the level last night as Honeymoon Cocktail ran in the one mile handicap at Newbury under Mikey Ennis. He ran okay to finish fifth under top-weight looking as though he would appreciate a little bit further and I am sure that it won't be long before David has his competing over hurdles. The ground at Newbury last night was heavy and with a further 20mm of rain at Pond House overnight, it's not exactly the going you would associate with this time of year! The stable has no runners today.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Chepstow, Brighton and Newbury as well as a National Hunt fixture from Fontwell. The stable has one runner this evening as Honeymoon Cocktail makes his debut for the stable on the flat at Newbury. He contests the one mile handicap at 6.40pm and on the pick of his French form he wouldn't be without a chance under Mikey Ennis. Our flat runners were a touch disappointing yesterday with Impulsive American proving too keen and not appearing to get home at Carlisle on his first start in this country and his first since being gelded. I would be surprised if he were not a lot better next time. Meanwhile over at Leicester, Race To Glory looks as though he is need of some help from the handicapper.
