There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps action from Sandown, Ayr and Leicester as well as an all-weather flat card from Wolverhampton.  The stable runs Serienschock at Sandown - he finished a good second at Wincanton last time out on soft ground and our seven year old looks to be improving with each run.  Serienschock (pictured above in action on the gallops earlier in the week) is on a mark of 133 which seems high enough considering he is yet to win in this country, although he looks to hold sound claims again under stable jockey Tom Scudamore.  Talking of Tom Scudamore, I did say that he had a couple of good looking rides at Carlisle yesterday and so it proved as he booted home a double aboard Greybougg and Speredek taking him onto the 127 winner mark - just one behind Richard Johnson.

Today we have a jumps card from Carlisle as well as two all-weather flat meetings from Southwell and Chelmsford.  The stable has no runners today, although stable jockey Tom Scudamore travels up to Carlisle for three rides - he looks to have a couple of decent chances too.  The big news that broke yesterday was that of another impending retirement, this time of champion flat jockey Richard Hughes.  Hughsie, who has won the flat championship for the past three years will retire at the end of the coming flat season and will take up training in 2016.  He may be 42 but he is riding as well as ever and is probably the most stylish jockey riding today - he said you can't go on forever as a jockey, but you can as a trainer.

Following the abandonment of Fontwell due to waterlogging we are left with just three meetings afternoon - a jumps card from Catterick and two all-weather flat fixtures from Lingfield and Kempton.  The stable has no runners this afternoon and unbelievably Tom Scu has decided to give his car a rest as he hasn't picked up any spare rides at Catterick.  Instead, he has joined us this morning and will be riding a few out and helping with the schooling.  There is excellent news if you are a fan of the all-weather, you can go to Lingfield in the afternoon and then rush down the road to go to Kempton - great race planning!

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Exeter and Newcastle as well as an all-weather flat meeting from Southwell.  The stable has one runner this afternoon, Great Choice (pictured above) ridden by stable jockey Tom Scudamore.  The Racing Post have our runner forecast as favourite at odds of around 7/4.  On his reappearance run at Cheltenham where he finished an excellent second he would have a leading chance, although he has been creeping up the weights subsequently.  He will handle the ground and this step up in trip could also prove beneficial.

Another weekend, another nice winner for the stable.  Soll followed up his Exeter debut success for the stable by landing the valuable veteran's chase at Newbury under a good ride from Conor O'Farrell.  He is in the Crabbies Grand National at Aintree and has a mark of 139 (which was his winning mark on Saturday) and he looks as though he will get a run according to the handicapper.  The marathon test should be right up his street as he has stamina in abundance - he finished seventh in the race for Jo Hughes in 2012 and it would be no great surprise were he to better that this time around.

There are two jumps cards from Huntingdon and Sedgefield taking place this afternoon and the stable has one runner this afternoon.  For 'N' Against participates in the handicap hurdle at Huntingdon and gets in with bottom weight of 10-11.  Stable jockey Tom Scudamore is in the saddle and he should run a big race.  Champion jockey A P McCoy is also at Huntingdon and while he has four mounts and while none of them look to have outstanding chances, one of the things that stands the champ out from the rest is his ability to find a winner from somewhere.  Meanwhile, I see that jockey Conor O'Farrell is making the long trip north for one ride for trainer Brian Ellison.

There was a nice winner for the stable yesterday when Vif Argent returned to form with a vengeance at Newbury under a well judged front running ride from conditional jockey Kieron Edgar.  The horses were certainly finishing tired yesterday but our ex-French gelding saw things out really well in the closing stages, eventually drawing five lengths clear.  Kieron's 5lbs claim would certainly have been beneficial.
