The stable has two runners this afternoon at the second day of the Cheltenham meeting. High class hurdler Ashkazar returns to fences from a potentially reasonable mark, while Laustra Bad contests a fiercely competitive handicap hurdle. We drew a blank yesterday, although Water Garden produced another good effort when finishing second to Abnaki. He was trying to concede 15lbs to the winner, so this was obviously a decent performance - although he remains 14lbs above his last winning mark he is still capable of being competitive from his rating of 124. Meanwhile, the persistent rain yesterday meant that Katchmore was a non-runner.

The stable has five runners at Cheltenham this afternoon, including three (Fiulin, The Pier and Raslan) in the competitive 2m4 1/2f handicap hurdle at 3.10pm. Water Garden participates in the three miler, while the progressive Katchmore bids to complete the hat-trick in the conditional jockey's and amateur riders hurdle. Young Tom Bellamy, who was aboard Katchmore for his latest success at Exeter is in the plate again today. The handicapper reacted by putting him up by 14lbs for his latest victory, so let's hope that he continues improving. There is also some good action on the level from Newmarket this afternoon.

The stable was among the winners again at the weekend with Top Wood (pictured above) scoring at Chepstow on Saturday and Enfant de Lune winning at Ffos Las on Sunday, while we had a few reach the frame at Aintree including Battle Group who was narrowly denied in the 3m1f John Smiths Handicap Chase. Talking of Aintree, what a shambles they made of the start of the Grand National - they had three goes at getting them off...how can they use knicker elastic to start the biggest race in the world?! Why don't the horses line up 20 yards from the tape, or is that too simple?!

We have two runners this afternoon at Ffos Las, Enfant de Lune and Bathwick Brave who will both be ridden by Tom Scudamore. Enfant de Lune was successful on his first start for the stable at Sandown but has a couple of disappointing efforts to overcome, while Bathwick Brave makes his debut over fences.

Just in case you have been on a different planet for the last few days, it is the world's biggest steeplechase this afternoon The Grand National. The Aussies would try to tell you that the Melbourne Cup is the biggest racing event, but don't be fooled - it doesn't get any bigger than this! When you walk around the National course you can see why all the jockeys get so excited. It just shows you how brave (or mad!) they must be! I always go down to the start for the race and the atmosphere is unbelievable with all the horses milling around and the jockeys having any last minute alterations made to their tack. When the tapes finally go up, the noise is deafening - there really is no other sporting event like it in the world.

It is day two of the Grand National meeting and I can't wait! Friday is always my favourite day of the Grand National meeting - the girls all turn up in their finery, although there is not usually much of it. At Liverpool, the Scouse girls certainly seem to believe in the addage "less is more"! We have four runners at the meeting today - Matuhi, Poole Master, I'm So Lucky and Street Entertainer. They all look to be very competitive races so we will just have to keep our fingers crossed.
